Rougham Pumpkins is now closed for 2025 – see you in 2026!
Just in time for Halloween, Rougham Estate has a vast, beautiful field full of hundreds of thousands of pumpkins, squashes and gourds in over 20 different varieties; in a huge array of different sizes and glorious colours, all just waiting to be picked exactly where they have grown!
… It’s the last week of the pumpkin patch now and there are still many pumpkins left but they are in the further reaches of the patch!
Positioned very close to Junction 45 on the A14, the Rougham Pumpkin Patch is a sea of orange, where visitors can grab a wheelbarrow and choose as many of their perfect pumpkins as they want, just where they have been growing.
There is plenty more to enjoy too, with room for children to run and climb, space to picnic, sandpits, ice cream, pedal tractors and small pumpkin games for the family, as well as lots of fabulous photo opportunities and a delicious range of food trucks including a bar.
Face painting by Face It Face Painting will be available each day we are open.
With free entrance and parking, come along and take it easy; stay for as long as you like, dress up if you wish, just come and let the children play. Pay for the pumpkins you choose at the exit from the patch.

Dogs
Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome in the picnic area and in the little dedicated doggy pumpkin patch. We do not recommend buying these pumpkins, due to normal dog behaviour.
Dogs are not allowed into the main pumpkin patch – the clean-up job in previous years has been too much, unfortunately.
It is always difficult to balance the wishes of dog owners (as we are) who really want to take their dogs into the main pumpkin patch and the upset of customers whose children have ended up with dog dirt over them, so we have tried to find a reasonable compromise. Thank you for your understanding and for respecting our boundaries.
Pumpkins by Torchlight 2025
On two spooky Saturday evenings – October 18th and 25th – the Rougham Pumpkin Patch will be open from 6pm to 9pm for a fabulous pumpkin festival at night, including a silent disco.
Bring your torches, wear your wellies and enjoy the fun!

Important information
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the picnic area and must be kept on a short lead at all times. They are also welcome in the little doggy pumpkin patch near the entrance.

Both are accepted around the site. Admission and parking are free. No booking needed
Picnicking is encouraged, with plenty of blanket spots on the grassy area, or use the benches and deckchairs if you prefer.
Catering will be available, offering street-food, sandwiches, coffees, snacks, drinks and ice cream.
Toilet facilities are available near the entrance of the field, including an accessible toilet with baby-changing facilities.
The field is accessible for wheelchairs and prams. Please be aware: this is a field; the ground is uneven in places and muddy if it has rained recently.
Face-painting will be available each day, by the talented Face It Face Painting (£5 per face).

Picking your Pumpkins

Wander around the patch, looking for your perfect pumpkin; all the pumpkins have been left to mature just where they grew. Check under the big leaves; pop pumpkins into your barrow as you go. Don’t forget to take some pictures and tag us!

When you are done and ready to leave, head for the marquee
When you are done and ready to leave, head for the marquee where our helpful staff will measure and price your pumpkins according to size. The pumpkins will be measured by passing them through our measuring circles; the larger the pumpkin, the higher the cost.

Pumpkin Prices
Pumpkins cost between £1 – £10 each, depending on size, with an extra 50p added for the white pumpkins. Small gourds are priced at 50p and the larger ones at £1.
Payment is preferably by card please, and can be made in the marquee.

Requests for Bulk Picking and Out-of-Hours Visits
We regularly get requests to pick a number of pumpkins for a special event, or to open the field out-of-hours for certain groups. We’re sorry, but unfortunately we are unable to fulfil these requests.

Donations to charities
There are many, many worthy charities in the local area and we are regularly asked to make donations. We have a limit for the number of donations we make and all donations must be approved in advance by Rougham Estate. On-the-spot requests for donations are not accepted.

Professional Photography and Drone Flights
The Pumpkins make for wonderful photos and there are several feature areas for you to take home some special captured memories. You are welcome to take photos for purely personal use.
We are happy to encourage professional photographers to use our wonderful pumpkin patch for photoshoots too, subject to the following conditions.
For the comfort and safety of all our visitors, and considering the fact that the pumpkin patch is part of Rougham Estate which is private land, all professional, commercial, for-profit, paid-for or “organised” photoshoots require a licence and must be pre-booked and authorised by Rougham Estate.
Drone use is strictly prohibited unless pre-arranged and authorised by Rougham Estate. It should be undertaken during hours when the site is not open to the public, and will incur a fee.
Rougham Estate must be credited on all professional/commercial images sold or used for social media.
Unauthorised professional photographers or photoshoots may be asked to leave/stop as determined by Rougham Estate staff.

Note - this is the postcode for roundabout at Junction 45 on A14. From there follow the signs on the roadside and see the diagram below.
On arriving at the Pumpkin Patch you will be directed by a member of staff to park; there is ample parking on grass.
The pumpkins are in the same field as the sunflowers and pumpkins in 2024.
The field is just east of Bury St. Edmunds, easily accessible from the A14 and clearly sign-posted from Junction 45.
From the Eastbound Carriageway:
- turn right at the roundabout at the end of the A14 slip road
- go up the north carriageway of Sow Lane

There is no entrance fee – the field is free to visit

Yes, there is plenty of free parking in the fields next to the sunflower and pumpkin field
Yes, there are portaloos at the side of the field near the entrance. There is also a baby-change unit and an accessible toilet.
Well-behaved dogs on short leads are welcome in the picnic area of the pumpkin field.
There is a special little pumpkin patch for dogs, at the entrance to the main patch. We don’t recommend buying these pumpkins due to normal dog behaviour.
Unfortunately, due to having had to clean up after too many dogs, dogs are not allowed inside the main pumpkin patch.
- Please keep your dog under control at all times and ensure that your dog does not disturb other people’s enjoyment of the premises or block any passageways.
If it’s been dry recently, you don’t need any special clothing or footwear to visit the pumpkin field. If it’s been raining recently, the ground may be muddy and you may want to consider wearing wellies. You are welcome to wear fancy dress if you like.

The pumpkins are all edible, but the gourds are not. We have a big board up at the field which lists the varieties and whether they are edible or not.
Our pumpkins and gourds all grow right here on Rougham Estate. We don’t import any.
Most of them are scattered across the patch exactly where they have grown, waiting to be picked. You can wander amongst them to find your perfect one.
Sometimes we move some around to create features in the field, like gathering them together to make the Pumpkin House.
We prefer cards, but will accept both cards and cash
Yes, we have a recipe for a tasty pumpkin pie at the field, or find one online.
Yes, there is a baby-changing unit in one of the portaloos

Please remember to bring your wheelbarrow back to the wheelbarrow park, at the entrance, when you’re done with it, so that someone else can use it.
Unfortunately we are not able to open the field out-of-hours. The field is generally quieter at the beginning of the morning or later in the afternoon and you may find that these times are suitable for your visit.
Unfortunately we don’t have the facilities to bulk-pick pumpkins for events. If you would like to come and pick the pumpkins yourself when we are open, you are welcome to.
If your photos are purely for personal use, you are welcome to take as many pictures as you like. Do tag us @roughamestate if you post them – we love to see them!
If you are a professional photographer or are taking pictures for any for-profit/commercial reason, you are required to get a licence for the photoshoot on our private land and book a time to visit. Please see the details on this page.
Drone photography can only be undertaken at a time when the field is not open to the public. Please get in touch to book a time.
After the field closes, a local food charity comes to get a stack of pumpkins to be cooked up to make meals and the rest of the pumpkins are for a local flock of sheep that come and graze the field, eating the pumpkins and fertilising the field for the coming year.

Applications are now open for Rougham Estate Arts and Crafts 2026, held in Blackthorpe Barn near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
We are looking for art and craft of the highest standard, especially contemporary design. You must design and make all the work yourself and be available to be at your stall all weekend.
The event is held over 5 weekends from 14th November to 13th December.
We love to welcome new makers to the medieval thatched Barn, as well as seeing old friends again from around the country.
The first tranche of stalls will be allocated by the selection committee, usually in March.
From textiles to glasswork, ceramics, woodwork, jewellery, metalwork, art, sculpture and more, submit an application to join the talented craftspeople this coming Christmas.

One of the things people often notice at Rougham is our network of hedges, stretching for nearly 30 miles.
While many hedgerows were removed by estates and farms in the 1960s and 70s, Rougham Estate largely resisted this, which is why our landscape still feels so rich and enclosed today. We also continue to plant new hedges across the estate and along field boundaries.
Caring for our hedges is essential work. They need regular management, carefully timed to avoid the bird nesting season.
Over the coming months, you may notice one or two hedges looking quite different. This is because they are being coppiced, a traditional practice where a hedge is cut back close to the ground.
It can look dramatic at first, but coppicing helps us carry out vital ditch clearance work and, in the longer term, actually benefits the hedge. Strong regrowth creates a thicker base, providing better shelter and habitats for wildlife. All work is carried out in winter, ready for healthy growth in spring.
Three years on, the hedge will be fuller, stronger and healthier than before as you can see in these pictures.
So if you notice our hedges seemingly disappear for a short time, they will be back bigger and better than before!

The winter months see the popular return of sheep to the farm here at Rougham Estate. A mix of breeding ewes and last year’s lambs, they play such an important role in our move towards more regenerative farming across the Estate.
They are here to feed off the cover crops we planted back in August.
We direct-drilled a diverse cover crop mixture (basically a mixture of superfood plants for the soil) into the previous crop’s stubble. The focus was on the sandier, lighter soil at the northern end of the Estate which is prone to nutrient loss and erosion.
The crops include fodder radish, forage rape and vetch which now provide a valuable winter soil cover, helping to protect these lighter soils from any erosion and also create a natural food source for the flock.
Each plant brings its own valuable benefits to the soil structure and biological activity in soil profile. Fodder radish, for example, sends a deep taproot down into the soil, improving structure and helping to break up compaction while encouraging biological activity below the surface. As the sheep graze, they also return valuable nutrients and organic matter back into the soil, supporting healthier land for future crops.
It’s a simple but powerful way of working with nature, keeping the land healthy and productive for years to come.

From the start of February, you’ll see scaffolding and hoarding going up around Blackthorpe Barn as we begin one of the most important projects we’ll be undertaking this year – a full rethatching of the roof.
Around 12 highly skilled thatchers will be on site for around 40 days, carefully renewing the roof of a building that has stood at the heart of Rougham Estate for more than 500 years. The barn was originally built in the 16th century and is over 30 metres long and and was used for the threshing and storage of grain. Over time has become much more than an agricultural building. Today it’s the setting for arts & craft fairs, art exhibitions, weddings and seasonal events. It is the true symbol of the estate.
Looking after its roof using traditional thatching methods isn’t just routine maintenance, it’s a way of respecting its history and making sure it can be enjoyed for generations to come.
When we charge for exhibitions and events in the barn, it’s these funds that go back into maintenance of the building. That includes major projects like this rethatching, as well as ongoing care and upkeep so Blackthorpe Barn continues to be a welcoming place for events our visitors can enjoy.
Rethatching is a traditional craft and fascinating to watch unfold. It’s a big job, an essential one, and something we’re really proud to be investing in as part of Blackthorpe Barn’s long story.

On Friday 20th February 2026, we’re hosting a Reset Retreat, a one-day retreat designed to help you slow down, reset and reconnect. Set in the Suffolk countryside, the day runs from 9.45am to 3pm and brings together gentle movement, time outdoors and deep relaxation.
The experience includes a guided mindful walk, a balanced yoga class with @thecreatespacecollective , sauna and cold plunge sessions with @the_roaming_sauna_ , a soothing sound bath, and plenty of space to pause and breathe. The day finishes with a late, light lunch, thoughtfully prepared to nourish and restore.
