Christmas Decorations in Fused Glass
Glass fusing is one of those crafts that feels like genuine magic; you begin with separate pieces of coloured glass, cutting, arranging and layering them into your chosen designs, and end up with something entirely your own, fused together in the heat of a kiln to create a beautiful, light-catching Christmas decoration that will twinkle on your tree for years to come.
Get into the Christmas spirit by learning the core skills of glass fusing with Danielle Hopkinson, a glass artist with over 25 years’ experience, while making your own fabulous glass Christmas hangings – heirlooms for the future. Danielle will teach you the skills of glass-cutting and arranging, helping you to create your own unique, long-lasting decorations.
What Will I do?
- You will be making decorations such as stars and trees
- Learn how to cut the glass
- Decorate your creations with frits, stringers and high-firing enamels
- Your decorations will be fired off-site; they can be collected later from the Rougham Estate Shop
- Please note that you won’t be taking your decorations home on the day
Who is this workshop suitable for?
- People aged 18 and over, due to the nature of the tools used
- This course is designed for all levels of expertise
- Beginners especially welcome
About Danielle
Danielle, together with her partner Ian Davies, is the owner of The Stained Glass Studio, Ipswich. Her work ranges from small decorations to more substantial sculptures, large scale architectural pieces and windows for public buildings and private houses. Join us for a day of weaving, nature and quiet creativity at Blackthorpe Barn.
This September, come and learn from textile artist Caroline Hyde-Brown and enjoy a beautiful day of making.
The Wild Weave workshop guides you through the art of weaving with wild grasses and freshly grown flowers on a mini hand-held loom. No experience needed, just a love of nature and a willingness to slow down and make something with your hands.
You’ll choose your raw materials from a posy prepared by Caroline, learn to weave and by the end of the day you’ll have your very own unique piece of wild art to take home and display.
Caroline will also share her knowledge of foraging, medicinal herbs and how the hedgerow has inspired her own practice, making this day as much about the stories behind the craft as the making itself.
📅 10am-4pm on Saturday 26th September
📍 The Meadow Room, Blackthorpe Barn
🎟️ £75 per person
Limited places - book on our website, link in profile.
