Throughout the winter there has been an unsightly hole near the entrance to the Café and shop.
Many people have speculated what was happening and when it would be finished. Now we can reveal all!
After months of painstaking work, often in really adverse conditions, the new Sunken Garden at Roots Café and the Garden Room is about to emerge like a butterfly from its chrysalis.
Countless tonnes of soil have been moved, reinforced and galvanised steel structures have been specially made and assembled on site. Gabion walls have been constructed and beautiful oak decking and handrails constructed. All the handrails have been pegged with wooden dowels. No detail has been too small to be considered.
Last week the beautiful pale blue metal chairs arrived which will provide the seating on the deck.
This week the waterfall and pond will be created by specialists, the paths and decking finished and the ugly gas tank will also be moved to a new home well out of sight. Tonnes of best quality top soil will also then be delivered.
Then, and only then, can the gardeners start their job of planting up the whole garden area with the beautiful selection of ornamental grasses and perennial plants that have been chosen for the site.
After years of dreaming and planning this project is almost there! Of course the plants will need time to grow into a mature garden but we will very soon have everything in place and, with the arrival of spring, it will be the perfect time to enjoy sitting on the new deck with a delicious coffee or a glass of something stronger.
We can’t wait for it to be finished and to welcome you here!
