Half-Day Fused Glass Garden Flowers Workshops
Come and learn the core skills of glass fusing with Danielle Hopkinson, a glass artist with over 25 years’ experience, while making 2 fabulous glass flowers you can put in your garden.
Danielle will teach you the skills you need to create your own unique fused glass flowers, designed by you.
What Will I do?
- You will be making two flowers, both set on 1 metre stainless steel rods
- You will make one large flower, measuring approx. 200mm diameter and a smaller flower, approx. 80mm diameter
- Design your flowers from a choice of 3 designs
- Learn how to cut the glass
- Decorate your glass flowers with frits, stringers and high-firing enamels
- After your flowers have been fired off-site, you can collect your beautifully fused glass flowers, designed by you for your garden
- Please note that you won’t be taking your flowers home on the day
Who is this workshop suitable for?
- People aged 18 and over, due to the nature of the tools used
- This course is designed for all levels of expertise
- Beginners especially welcome
About Danielle
Danielle, together with her partner Ian Davies, is the owner of The Stained Glass Studio, Ipswich. Her work ranges from small decorations to more substantial sculptures, large scale architectural pieces and windows for public buildings and private houses. Danielle studied Architectural Glass at Swansea College of Art and is a member of the British Society of Master Glass Painters.

Leave your glass flowers at Blackthorpe Barn to be taken off-site to be fired

Your flowers will be delivered back to Blackthorpe Barn, packaged and labelled for collection
After your flowers have been fired off-site, you will be notified of the date to come back to Blackthorpe Barn to collect your flowers. If this isn’t suitable, your flowers can be posted for a fee. Arrangement and payment for this can be organised on the day of your workshop.

Refund & cancellation policy
If you need to cancel a workshop
If you are unable to attend your booked workshop and notify us at least 7 full days in advance of the workshop date, we can offer a refund or a transfer to the same workshop on an alternative date, providing there are places available or a course is planned for the future.
If cancellation is within 7 full days of your workshop unfortunately we are unable to offer a refund. We do appreciate that sometimes unforeseen circumstances may mean that you can’t attend so we are happy for you to send along a friend to take your place. We will need their name and contact details prior to the workshop.
Our right to cancel a workshop
All our workshops have a minimum attendance level and may be cancelled if too few bookings are received. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone workshops at any time. Should we need to cancel a workshop, we will give you as much notice as possible of the cancellation. You will receive a full refund or, if you prefer, a transfer to an alternative available course, space permitting. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any liability for travel or other costs.

There is plenty of free parking available.
Accessible parking is available near the entrance to the Café/Shop area.
Please Note: The car park closes when the Roots Café closes and the entrance gates are locked after this time.
Blackthorpe Barn is situated just south of Junction 45 of the A14, three miles east of Bury St Edmunds, in the village of Rougham.
Look out for the entrance gates to a long tree-lined avenue at the White House junction, with the Barn on the right of the avenue.
Blackthorpe Barn’s black and white signs direct visitors from local roads.
The Meadow Room can be found behind the old thatched Barn and behind Roots Café.

It`s a perfect time of year to explore the grounds of Rougham Estate, including this incredible sculpture at Blackthorpe Barn is carved from a 400-year-old oak that once stood on the Rougham Estate.
It reflects the fascinating connections in our forests, where trees and plants support each other through networks of mycorrhizal fungi—a hidden, natural system that thrives when left undisturbed.
The oak itself has a special story. It grew near Rougham Hall, where Sir George William Agnew, a former estate owner, buried his beloved dog ‘Tummel’ and marked the spot with a gravestone. When the tree had to be felled for safety reasons, it was repurposed into this stunning sculpture to honour the history and significance of our woodlands.
The sculpture has been cut along its length to open it up like a book. Like a book, it tells a story—the incredible story of life below the ground in an ancient woodland.
Carved by the talented members of the Heaven Sculpture Yard community, Forest Floor was commissioned by Rougham Estate in 2021 to celebrate 30 years of Arts and Crafts events at Blackthorpe Barn.
Come and explore this beautiful sculpture, enjoy a woodland walk, and experience the rich history of Rougham Estate, where dogs are also welcome at Rougham Estate, but we kindly ask they remain on leads and keep their paws on the floor when visiting the Roots Cafe.
