Enjoy an evening at the sunflowers

As the summer sun begins to set and the time with the sunflowers comes to a close, we’re opening the sunflower field for a special evening visit, and it promises to be a good one! August evenings have a quality of light that’s hard to describe and even harder to resist, and the sunflower field catches every bit of it.

Come and wander at your own pace, take in the beauty of the field and enjoy time in the great Suffolk outdoors, with the golden hour casting everything in a warm, flattering glow, this is going to be a fabulous evening.

Entrance and parking are free, as always. Just pay for anything you might want to buy at the field. Card preferred, cash also accepted. Sunflowers can be picked and bought at the usual prices.

A DJ will be playing easy summer tunes, and drinks and snacks will be available from the Roots&Co kiosk; come and bring your own picnic and enjoy the evening.
We also have a limited number of tickets for our summer BBQ (see below and book on this page). Grab yours early.
Face painting will be on offer too, as well as a glitter bar to complete the festival vibe.

Whether you make an evening of it with a meal or just pop by for a wander and a moment of beauty, we’d love to see you there as the sun goes down.

Opening and Closing Times

Gates will open at 6pm, with last entry at 8:30pm, and the field closing at 9pm.
Between 5pm and 6pm the sunflower field will close, giving us an hour to prepare the field for the evening event.
If you have tickets for the evening BBQ and are at the field in the afternoon, you are welcome to stay for the hour between 5pm-6pm, but you may be asked to move as we rearrange things for the evening setup.

Food Available

There are a limited number of tickets for the adult meals from the BBQ which must be bought in advance. When these tickets are gone, they are gone.
You are welcome to bring a picnic if you like.
The Roots&Co kiosk will be selling hot, cold and iced drinks, as well as tray-bakes, ice creams, crisps, strawberries and other desserts and snacks.
Alcohol will be available, including beer, cider, wine, Prosecco and cocktails.

BBQ Menu

Tickets for adult meals at the BBQ are very limited and when they are gone, they are gone.
Your ticket will give you one main meal option and 2 side options (menu below). You do not have to choose what you want from the menu now, just let us know whether you would prefer a meat option, a vegetarian option or a vegan option when you book.

And the winner is… the photo by Howard King of rye on Rougham Estate 🎉
Well done! What a wonderful picture of the Estate.

The Through Your Lens competition has been the last part of Rougham Estate In Bloom which started way back in May and celebrated the beauty of all parts of the Estate.

Thank you to everyone who entered the photography competition and a special congratulations to those who made it to the finalist stage. All your photos were amazing!

Thanks also go to everyone who took the time to vote. It was your votes, on Instagram, Facebook and in-person at Blackthorpe Barn, that determined who the final winner was.

@howardking2468 well done again, and we will be in touch about your gift voucher prize!

With the warmer weather encouraging more visitors to the Estate to enjoy the outdoors, including the sunflowers, we wanted to drop a gentle reminder that the grounds are extra dry, making the risk of fire exceptionally high.

To help us protect the Estate, wildlife, and each other, please be extra cautious with:

Cigarettes: please dispose of your cigarettes safely in a bin and ensure that they are completely out.

Glass items and rubbish: dispose of waste properly, especially glass, which can focus direct sunlight and ignite dry grass.

Parking: Try not to park on areas of long, dry grass, as hot exhaust pipes can easily spark a fire.

Please report any issues or fire straight away.

In the meantime we look forward to welcoming you to the Estate.

Have you been to Rougham Sunflowers yet?
Here are some pictures of lovely people and dogs who have had their picture taken here - can you spot yourself? It’s been wonderful to welcome so many people here already and we expect to be open for another week or two yet.

Dogs are welcome on the grass in the picnic area and in the special dog path through the sunflowers, but not in the main maze or in the sandpits or on the bale pyramids.

The sunflowers are open every day, 9am-5pm, with 9am-10am on Tuesdays and Thursdays being reserved for ticketed SEN-friendly visits.

Entry and parking are free, pay for any sunflowers you cut and take home. Bring a picnic if you like or enjoy the Roots&Co offerings of loaded bagels, topped strawberry cups, cakes, snacks, hot and cold drinks and more.

There is plenty of space to run around and play, lots of photo ops (tag us @roughamestate), games, football goals (bring your own football), sandpits and the big bales of straw to climb around on. Face painting is available (£5). Cash and card accepted everywhere.
It’s all good old-fashioned outdoor fun - great for getting the kids (and yourself!) off the screens for a while.

The postcode for the field is IP30 9HX. It’s just south of Junction 45 on the A14, to the east of Bury St Edmunds. We posted a driving directions reel a day or two ago - check that out if you want to see how to get here.

And only half a mile away is Blackthorpe Barn, the home of Roots Café and the fabulous Rougham Estate Lifestyle and Garden Shop, which is running a Summer Sale right now - so don’t forget to pop in there, maybe for a new vase for your sunflowers.

The sunflower field is only open for a few weeks a year, so come soon and don’t miss out on the essence of summer!

In the month of July we saw the sunflowers in full bloom and harvest underway - despite the challenging weather.
