Ceramic and Cold Cast Bronze Animal Sculpture

Julia Hulme studied and gained a degree from Exeter College of Art and Design in 1998 specialising in printmaking and ceramics.

After graduation, Julia started producing artwork for reproduction for greetings cards, prints, textiles, homewares and a few more.

During this time Julia continued to make ceramic sculptures for her own interest but this has established itself as a business in its own right and her work is exhibited at galleries throughout the UK including Scotland and Ireland.

She has recently started to produce a number of popular examples in bronze resin which also provides new opportunities and a base from which to build sculptures into postures that cannot be achieved in clay because of the nature of the material.

Her most recent works have all been inspired by my surroundings and she enjoys sculpting the familiar forms of animals both from my own menagerie and living wild in the surrounding countryside. She likes to emphasise their character, humour and individuality.

She has always loved to draw and still include this as part of the process adding texture and colour to her work with diverse materials such as hessian, string and mats to leave an impression in the base material.

Her most recent work includes garden sculpture; hand-built in clay and finished to permanently rust!
