Baadninish Weaving

Meet Anna George
ETHICAL WEAVING INSPIRED BY NATURE
Anna is a hand-weaver based in Badninish, in the far north of the Scottish Highlands, where she runs The Baadninish Weaving Shop. From her studio, she weaves rugs and other items from local fleeces, washed, spun and woven entirely by hand, highlighting the natural colours of the wool.
Being sustainable and ethical is of central importance to Anna and so she uses mainly local, but always British, fleeces and yarns from well-cared-for flocks, hand-processing everything she can. Each piece reflects the whole journey from raw fleece to finished cloth: washing, drying, spinning and weaving, all by hand. You may even find the occasional piece of vegetation, but as Anna says, this only adds to the authenticity of the piece.
Her rugs in particular reflect this grounded, slow approach to making, and she also takes on commissions, transforming a customer’s own fleeces into a bespoke rug made to their design.
It is this deep connection to material, landscape and process that makes her work so distinctive and makes her feel truly connected to each and every item.
