Visiting the Arts and Crafts at Blackthorpe Barn is a charming experience, blending history and creativity in a beautiful rural setting. The 16th-century barn, nestled in the Suffolk countryside, provides a perfect backdrop for showcasing the work of talented artisans.
Visitors can explore stalls filled with unique handmade items, meeting the makers who crafted each piece, from ceramics and textiles to jewellery and home décor.
The warm, rustic atmosphere makes it a delightful spot to find one-of-a-kind gifts, meet craftspeople from around the country, and enjoy the festive ambiance.

Blackthorpe Barn is situated just south of Junction 45 of the A14, three miles east of Bury St Edmunds, in the village of Rougham.
Look out for the entrance gates to a long tree-lined avenue at the White House junction, with the Barn on the right of the avenue.
Blackthorpe Barn’s black and white signs direct visitors from local roads.

The Arts and Crafts Fair attracts a wide range of very talented artisans, some of whom are local to the area and others travel considerable distances to join us.

You can sort the makers by week and by craft.
Only assistance dogs are allowed in the Arts and Crafts Fair.
Yes, there is a different mix of makers at the Barn every weekend.
A very few makers stay with us all 5 weekends, but most makers are at the Barn for one or two weekends, with new makers joining every weekend. This means there is always something new to see each weekend.
See the Arts and Crafts Fair page for more information about which maker is with us on which weekend. You can sort the grid of makers by week and by craft.
Yes, we accept both cards and cash for the Arts and Crafts Fair.
Or you can buy a ticket for a reduced price online.
Children 16 and under are admitted for free.
Most of the makers prefer to take cards, but it is up to each maker how they wish to take payment.
Makers sell their creations from individual stalls directly to visitors, using the days between the weekends to replenish their stock.
The cost of the maintenance of an ancient barn such as this one is considerable, as is running an event like the Arts and Crafts Fair.
In order to support the makers and artisans we distribute these costs over both the stall-holders and visitors, thereby keeping the stall-holder fees down.
We charge a small entry fee for every visitor over 16, pricing our tickets very modestly compared to most other craft shows of this calibre.
The £2.50 (online) or £3 on-the-door day-ticket price is less than, for example, standard online postage costs, dropping to £1 per day for an online season ticket. That’s significantly less than a cup of coffee!
Our prices have remained the same over the past years despite the costs rising. By contributing the small entrance cost, you are supporting both Suffolk heritage and the talented craft-makers.

There is a wide range of arts and crafts for sale at the fair, from jewellery and ceramics to leather-, glass-, metal- and woodwork, food and drink, art and much more.
Each maker is specifically selected to ensure quality and variety.

The season ticket is a great option if you are a fan of quality, handcrafted items.
For £10 (online) or £12 on-the-door, the season ticket gives you access to all 5 weekends (10 days) of the Arts and Crafts Fair. (This price is less than a single day ticket for many equivalent craft fairs in the region.)
A day ticket for the Arts and Crafts Fair gives you entry to that one day of the Craft Fair, where around 50 makers have gathered.
You can buy the ticket online for £2.50 or for £3 on-the-door.
Yes, the different parts of the Barn has heating; Roots Café and the toilets have underfloor heating, the shop and the long barn have gas heating and the thatched barn has radiant electric heaters.
Many of the makers do take commissions, but this is up to each individual maker.

☕️Coffee and cakes are always on offer, with take-away options too, which are just perfect for going on one of the walks around the Estate.
🥾The walks range from an easy 20-30 minutes to a more strenuous 2-3 hours. They take you along pathways, through woods and fields and deeper into our gorgeous Suffolk countryside.
🧭Each walk is described in detail on our website, with waypoints, photos and a video in real-time of George Agnew (whose great-grandfather bought the Estate) and his dog Bolly doing the walk, so you can see exactly what it looks like.

🎃With pumpkins and gourds from tiny to huge, in a vast array of colours and the funkiest of shapes, your perfect pumpkin is waiting for you here.
🎃Open October weekends 9-5 and then daily 26-31, there are thousands of pumpkins to choose from.
🎃This year, come to the Patch at dusk for Pumpkins by Torchlight on Saturdays 12th and 26th 5.30pm-9.30pm, with twinkly lights, fire pits, food and a shhh! silent disco. Reserve your headsets online (£5/adult, children free) - 26th is already sold out. But don’t worry - there’ll be a waiting list on the night to take over returned headsets.
🐶Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome in the picnic area and in the new little Doggy Pumpkin Patch. Due to having had too much mess to clear up in previous years, dogs are not allowed in the main pumpkin patch.
🎃Free to enter, no booking required, plenty of space for children to run and play, a range of food and drink on offer or bring your own picnic, face painting, ice cream, loads of photo opportunities…. come and take it easy and enjoy the great outdoors at this gorgeous time of year!

When the sun is shining, why not grab some fresh air on one of our walks? It is great for the mind and soul.
We have a range of walks on the Estate for a variety of abilities.
If you fancy a walk with history, there is the Roman Rougham Walk. This walk visits the important Roman burial tumulus at Eastlowhill. First excavated during the 1840s by John Henslow and returns down an major Roman Road, Margary 33A, which linked Chelmsford with many points in East Anglia and via Peddars Way to the Wash and so on to Lincolnshire and the North of England.
Please note that this walk is 3.7 miles and involves crossing some stiles and involves crossing over and walking on the public road for short sections.
If this is not for you, take a look at our other walks.
Dogs welcome on a lead and in the cafe after if you all need a refreshment.
