It’s that time of year again when the crops are ready and the farm team is busy getting the harvest in while the weather holds.
This year the harvest is being stored in the new grain store which has recently been built.
Here you can see the Organa winter barley being unloaded, ready to supply the East Anglian feed market.
And almost immediately our thoughts have also turned to preparations for Harvest 2027. Following the harvest of the Winter Barley, pig muck from our resident pigs is now being spread across the stubbles in anticipation for the planting of the next crop which will be Winter Oilseed Rape.
This valuable source of organic manure provides the crop with nutrition from the very start, reducing the farm’s reliance on the use of synthetic fertiliser in the autumn.
In doing this, we are trying to create a more sustainable farming system, focusing on soil health, the resilience of soils for the future and good general farming practise.
