MEET CATHERINE Wynne-Powell

Catherine studied BA (hons) Crafts 30 years ago at MMU, and returned to clay three years ago. Her electric fired stoneware work is inspired by the rich traditions and rituals she encountered as she travelled in Japan in 2023, when on sabbatical from teaching. The work she produces references ritual, be it individual or with friends; through the conversations she holds with customers, she weaves their ideas of routine, ritual and ceremony into her work, encouraging well-being wherever she can.

Three values in particular are intentionally wedged and worked into the clay that resonate; joy, curiosity and abundance. Working mindfully, she recycles as much as possible and tries to make her own tools, solving problems creatively, even if it means deviating from traditional methods.

People connecting with her work will hopefully feel the vibes that encourage them to pause, reflect and find presence, contributing to them being their best selves. From zen inspired kurinuki mosspots, to thrown, daily bird feeders, morning lemon squeezers to meditative candlesticks, there is something for everyone.
