Meet Cally James

Cally James enjoys being creative, having spent years working as a chef and then moving into cake decorating. However her passion has always been for pottery since trying it first during her O levels.

Returning to pottery, Cally trained under a local ceramic artist and soon found herself completely absorbed. After several years as a hobby potter, further study led to an MA in Fine Art and with it, the confidence to establish herself as a ceramic and sculptural artist.

The name Hippy Hut grew from a playful family moment, inspired by a glass-and-pallet-wood summer house built in her garden. When her daughters declared, “Mum, you’re such a hippy!” the name stuck, and the Hippy Hut was born.

Each piece Cally makes is infused with a spirit of warmth and creativity, offering a collection of hand-crafted functional items alongside pottery lessons, workshops, parties and corporate events.
