Meet Rachael Godfrey

Ceramicobsessions is the work of Rachael, a ceramic artist creating sculptural porcelain lighting and art inspired by the colours and forms of the Essex, Suffolk and Normandy coastline.
Her signature lamps are hand-sculpted with an organic, textured surface and finished with hand-painted sea-toned glazes, sometimes combined with glass. By day, they sit quietly like something you might find washed up on a beach, or a contemporary piece of art in their own right. By night, they transform; soft light radiates through the surface texture and glaze, revealing a completely different piece: a centrepiece for any table, a talking point for any shelf. Alongside these sits a range inspired by seed pods and coastal hues.

What sets Rachael’s work apart is the material itself; she is constantly experimenting with how far porcelain can be pushed, for luminosity, for structure, for form over function. She works from her home studio to bring a little piece of the coast into your home.

Rachael has worked with clay for seven years, but this is her first year producing collections to sell through Etsy, fairs and a growing Instagram community. Every piece is entirely unique, never mass-produced, so when you bring one home, you own something one-of-a-kind; a sculpture first, a lamp second, made by hand, not a machine.

“I believe good design should feel alive,” says Rachael. “That light and form can hold memory and mood, the way a walk on the shoreline does for me. That’s what I try to capture in every piece I make.”

Her Christmas collection is a contemporary twist on tradition featuring hanging porcelain bauble lamps alongside delicate porcelain tree decorations in unexpected forms.
