A Suffolk Country Estate

Rougham Estate, located a few miles from Bury St Edmunds, is a rural haven epitomising the timeless charm and natural beauty of East Anglia.

It boasts a rich history dating back through the ages to Roman times. The Estate’s centrepiece, Rougham Hall, although ruined, stands as a testament to its heritage, with the Blackthorpe Barn and the WWII airfield control tower adding unique historical interest.

Besides the fascinating history, the Estate takes its rural responsibilities seriously, ensuring a harmonious balance in its natural surroundings complemented by sustainable forestry and wildlife management. The working farm contributes to the agricultural legacy, while dedicated conservation efforts underscore the commitment to preserving the Estate’s ecological diversity.

ROUGHAM ESTATE TRUST

The Rougham Estate Trust was established by George Agnew and his late brother John, to safeguard the Estate into the future. Committed to maintaining the Estate’s environment and landscape for the benefit of the public, the Trust also supports cultural and educational initiatives by inspiring young local musicians and preserving the history of the area.

Well… the sunflowers are green (better than brown🙌😃), but they certainly aren’t golden yellow yet.
The buds are getting bigger, which is perfect but we won’t be opening this coming weekend.
We’ve now pencilled in the 15th of August to open and we’re watching the blooms closely.🔍🌻

As soon as we know more we’ll get the news out; you can always check the latest by going to roughamestate.com/welcome

We can’t wait to see you, but these sunflowers are making us exercise patience this year, which apparently is a virtue…🤔😆🤞🌻

Harvest Progress Report 🌾

With the Winter Barley and Oilseed Rape now safely stored, our focus shifts to the next crop: Milling Rye.

For over 35 years, Rougham Estate has been cultivating Milling Rye, primarily for Ryvita. This crop thrives in our light, sandy soils, demonstrating its resilience during the dry spells common to East Anglia.

Once harvested, the grain makes its journey to Poole, where it undergoes milling and is transformed into the Ryvita crispbreads found on supermarket shelves. Impressively, our goal this harvest is to produce enough Rye to create a staggering 85.5 million crispbreads!
