A Suffolk Country Estate
Rougham Estate, located a few miles from Bury St Edmunds, is a rural haven epitomising the timeless charm and natural beauty of East Anglia.
It boasts a rich history dating back through the ages to Roman times. The Estate’s centrepiece, Rougham Hall, although ruined, stands as a testament to its heritage, with the Blackthorpe Barn and the WWII airfield control tower adding unique historical interest.
Besides the fascinating history, the Estate takes its rural responsibilities seriously, ensuring a harmonious balance in its natural surroundings complemented by sustainable forestry and wildlife management. The working farm contributes to the agricultural legacy, while dedicated conservation efforts underscore the commitment to preserving the Estate’s ecological diversity.

The Rougham Estate Trust was established by George Agnew and his late brother John, to safeguard the Estate into the future. Committed to maintaining the Estate’s environment and landscape for the benefit of the public, the Trust also supports cultural and educational initiatives by inspiring young local musicians and preserving the history of the area.

Our sunken garden is really taking hold now – it’s been a year since it was planted and developed. It’s simply a tranquil and beautiful space.

This Easter Sunday, we will host around 200 stunning vintage tractors for the 36th National Vintage Tractor Run.
These beautifully restored machines will gather from about 8:00am before setting off at around 9:30am on a nostalgic journey through the Suffolk countryside, returning mid-afternoon for one last look before they go.
It’s completely free to visit, with plenty of parking available. Roots Café will be open from 8am to 5pm, and the Garden Room Shop from 10am to 4pm. Estate walks are open too – perfect for a wander while you’re here.
