September and October are busy months on the Rougham Estate farm, primarily due to planting the cereal crops to harvest next season.

The planting season began in late September with the Winter Barley which will be destined for the animal feed mills of East Anglia. This was followed by starting to plant our Milling Rye, ready for sending to Ryvita to make the famous Ryvita Crispbreads. Next on the list will be Winter Wheat of which we grow both Milling and Feed Wheat.
The fields were all cultivated or ploughed back in August to create a level seedbed ready for planting into; to get the crop off to the best possible start we want good soil-to-seed contact.

In these pictures you see Jonny drilling a crop of Organa Winter Barley with our 6m Horsch Sprinter drill, closely followed behind by Matt with a 12m set of rolls which consolidate the ground.

Throughout the next few weeks you will see the farm team in the fields around the Estate, busy drilling the rest of the cereals and also, the Sugar Beet harvest will soon be underway!
