On 18 October, at the prestigious Bury Free Press West Suffolk Business Awards, two of our own claimed top honours. George Agnew received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Rougham Estate team won the Investing in West Suffolk Award.

The awards event, held at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds, celebrates business excellence across West Suffolk, recognising organisations, individuals and projects that deliver outstanding impact, innovation, community benefit and investment in the region.

What the awards mean & judging criteria

The Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for someone whose career has made a lasting and significant impact on business or community life in West Suffolk. It honours long-term dedication, vision and influence that reach beyond a single venture. This award is typically judged on sustained contribution over many years including leadership, mentoring, community involvement and legacy.

George Agnew, owner of Rougham Estate, was named winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. In his brief remarks, he expressed humility and gratitude:

“It’s a bit of a shock, I’m deeply flattered. I suppose I’ve got to say it’s all thanks to so many other people who have supported me in everything along my journey … these things are like a pyramid, I couldn’t be here without the other people really so I have to thank them.”

This award acknowledges not only George’s long-term commitment to Rougham and local projects, but also the broader influence he has had on the community and business environment in the region.
