About this event
This Spring, come join the Coddiwomplers for a hands-on willow weaving workshop. Guided by two experienced basket makers, you’ll learn traditional willow weaving skills and techniques while creating beautiful pieces for your home or garden.
In May, participants will have the opportunity to create mini baskets using traditional basketry weaves, including waling, rope weave and track borders. This is a calm and mindful workshop, offering the chance to try out different techniques and explore a variety of willow types. By the end of the session, participants will have made two practical mini baskets with wooden bottoms, suitable for use as plant pot covers, utensil holders, or decorative pieces for the home.
The course is suitable for beginners and no prior experience is required. Some manual dexterity and hand strength will be needed.

- Learn some basic skills and techniques of willow weaving
- Make two mini baskets

It’s been just over a week since the master thatchers @dodsonbrosthatchers arrived at the Estate to start work on our much loved Blackthorpe Barn.
Watching this ancient craft unfold is a rare privilege for the Estate so we wanted to share the journey so far with you, as it’s not every day you get to see a piece of history being preserved quite like this.
If there is anything you’d like to know about the thatching leave a comment and we’ll try and include the answer in our next update post.

Each month we are introducing a new series of seasonal specials at Roots, designed to highlight the best local produce available in the British calendar.
Our first dish features forced rhubarb, which is currently at its peak. This indoor-grown variety is notably sweeter and more tender than the timber-grown crops arriving in April.
For this dish, we poach the rhubarb in vanilla and pair it with whipped lemon ricotta, mint-infused honey, and pistachios.
The base is a dark rye bread sourced from @thefriendlyloaf Bakers, provides a deep, savoury contrast to the brightness of the fruit.
This dish is available daily throughout February and is not to be missed.

This week’s special is a game changer and a real twist on the traditional bacon sandwich.
A butter croissant filled with salt & pepper pork belly with avocado, smoked cheddar, chipotle jam, pico de gallo and Coriander.
It’s truly decadent and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Only available at Roots Cafe this week.

Exciting update…
From tomorrow, Monday 2nd February, the re-thatch will begin on our much loved Blackthorpe Barn.
To ensure safety during this process, please note that the car park in front of the barn (as shown in the first picture) will be closed for the duration of the works. We anticipate that this will take approximately 2-3 months, depending on the weather conditions.
However there will be ample parking available in the overflow car park and the car park where we sell Christmas Trees at Christmas.
We look forward to sharing more updates on the re-thatch as we go 😊
