Meet Sally Wilding
This year marks 30 years since Sally launched her small label: Hedkase.
From the beginning, Sally’s focus has always been on creating headwear that is both imaginative and practical, with designs that stand out while remaining wearable.
Her winter collections feature cosy polar fleece and, more recently, the richness of boiled wool. From ski hats to Mad Hatter–inspired creations, Nordic styles to town-and-country classics, Sally loves designing “any type of hat” that sparks joy and personality.
Growing up in a Lincolnshire village instilled in her a deep appreciation for the countryside, which continues to inspire her work. Nature, insects and an enduring fascination with spherical forms feed into her designs, while her love of colour and how shades interact brings each piece to life.
A trained curtain and blind maker, Sally is largely self-taught as a milliner but honed her technical knowledge through pattern-cutting training. Early in her career she was honoured with an invitation to join Philip Treacy’s team in London, though family life kept her rooted closer to home.
Over the years, Sally has built a loyal following through markets, festivals and craft fairs, with many customers returning again and again for bespoke pieces.
This year marks her 30th Christmas appearance at Blackthorpe Barn and she’s looking forward to welcoming both familiar faces and new customers.
