After years of planning and months of working hard, the wonderful sunken garden outside Roots Café is now finished and the deck is ready to be used – thank goodness for good weather!

Our visitor facilities have been expanded with the opening of the new terrace and garden area at the entrance to the historic barn complex. Tonnes of soil have been moved, creating a serene area near the medieval Blackthorpe Barn, perfect for some moments of calm.

A new pond area and waterfall have been created and the whole area has been planted with ornamental grasses and perennial plants, creating a new habitat for wildlife.

George Agnew, owner of Rougham Estate, said: “The estate itself is set in the wonderful Suffolk countryside, so we wanted to offer this feeling of being at nature within our café offering.”

It was opened on 10th May 2024, immediately welcoming visitors to enjoy coffee and cake, and perhaps a cheeky glass of white, in the sunshine on the new decking.
