Pumpkins at Nighttime and Silent Disco
Step into the Rougham Pumpkin Patch after dark and experience the autumn evening in a different way. From 6–9pm on Saturdays 17th and 24th October, the field will (hopefully!) be glowing under the moonlight and you are invited to bring a torch and wander among the pumpkins to find your perfect one.
Alongside the pumpkins, the evening will be filled with seasonal treats, cosy corners and the twighlight Silent Disco (for those who want to enjoy it and quiet for those who don’t).
You are welcome to stay on the patch between 5pm and 6pm, but we may ask you to move if we need to rearrange the picnic area where you are sitting.

Twinkling lights add a magical glow to the picnic area, where benches will be available to pause and savour the festival atmosphere. You’re welcome to bring your own picnic if you prefer.
Children (and grown-ups!) can clamber over the big bale pyramids. Dogs are very welcome in the picnic area, though we kindly ask that they don’t join you in the pumpkin patch itself (as during the day).
Free entry and no booking needed to come to the patch, just for the headsets, if you want them.
Silent Disco
Pump up the fun with music and movement from our Silent Disco, and with three channels to choose from, everyone can dance to their own beat.
Headsets are limited and must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.
However, we will run a waiting list on the evening at the Pumpkin Payment Tent. Add your name to the list and when headsets are returned, you can hire them then and there; payment by card.
For those who don’t want any music, you’ll be pleasantly impressed by how you won’t be bothered by any!
Pumpkins will be on sale throughout the evening as usual, so you can head home with your seasonal pick after an unforgettable autumnal night outdoors.
Get dressed up and/or wrap up warm, put on your wellies (depending on the weather), bring your torches and come and enjoy the gorgeous autumn evenings at Rougham Estate.

How it Works

Come to the Rougham Pumpkin Patch between 6pm - 9pm
If you have been here during the day, you can stay here between 5pm and 6pm, but please be aware that if you are sitting in the picnic area we may ask you to move as we set the area up for the evening event.

Food and Drink available
Food options for the evenings are being worked on. More details soon.
Roots&Co will be selling drinks including beer and prosecco.
Card payment is preferred for all food purchases.

Silent Disco Headsets
If you have booked your Silent Disco headsets please come to the Pumpkin Pay tent, let us know your name and the number of headsets booked.
If you have not booked any headsets, we will be running a waiting list. When headsets are returned/become available we’ll call your name.
Payment by card.
The disco will have 3 different channels of music to select from.
From experience last year, the headsets work in the pumpkin patch, but we can’t guarantee how far into the patch the music will reach.

The pumpkin patch is open as normal
You are welcome to search the pumpkin patch for pumpkins by torchlight. Payment for pumpkins is made in the payment tent as normal.
Card payment preferred.
Please be careful in the dark.

Dogs are welcome in the picnic area and in the small doggy pumpkin patch.
In previous years we have allowed dogs into the main pumpkin patch but unfortunately there were too many complaints about the mess left, so dogs are no longer allowed in the main pumpkin patch.

Refund & cancellation policy
If you need to cancel your headset booking
If you are unable to attend the Silent Disco at the Pumpkin Patch and notify us at least 3 full days in advance of the booked event date, we can offer a full refund.
If cancellation is within 3 full days of the booked event, unfortunately we are unable to offer a refund.
Our right to cancel a workshop
All our events have a minimum attendance level and may be cancelled if too few bookings are received. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone events at any time. In the unlikely case that we should need to cancel an event, we will give you as much notice as possible of the cancellation. You will receive a full refund or, if you prefer, a transfer to an alternative available event, space permitting. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any liability for travel or other costs.

On arriving at the Pumpkin Patch please park in the area adjacent to the picnic area; there is ample parking on grass.
The pumpkins are in the same field as the sunflowers this year.
The Sunflower and Pumpkins Field is just east of Bury St. Edmunds, easily accessible from the A14 and clearly sign-posted from Junction 45.
From J45, A14 Eastbound Carriageway:
- turn left (first exit) on the roundabout at the end of the A14 slip road
- go under the A14 bridge
- at the T junction turn right, by the white house and entrance to Blackthorpe Barn
- follow this lane for about half a mile until you reach Elderstub Lane on the left
- turn left down Elderstub Lane and the entrance is about 150yds on the right
From the J45, A14 Westbound Carriageway:
- turn right at the end of the A14 slip road
- at the T junction turn right, by the white house and entrance to Blackthorpe Barn
- follow this lane for about half a mile until you reach Elderstub Lane on the left
- turn left down Elderstub Lane and the entrance is about 150yds on the right
Yes, there are portaloos at the side of the field in the picnic area. There is also a baby-change unit and an accessible toilet.
Yes, the field is fine for buggies and prams, but please note that it is a field and can be uneven in places. If it’s been raining the ground can get muddy.
Well-behaved dogs on short leads are welcome in the picnic area of the pumpkin field.
There is a special little pumpkin patch for dogs, at the entrance to the main patch. We don’t recommend buying these pumpkins due to normal dog behaviour.
Unfortunately, due to having had to clean up after too many dogs, dogs are not allowed inside the main pumpkin patch.
- Please keep your dog under control at all times and ensure that your dog does not disturb other people’s enjoyment of the premises or block any passageways.
Yes, we have food and drink vendors at the field. Please see the list above. Please keep an eye on this page and on our social media for any updates.
The pumpkins are all edible, but the gourds are not. We have a big board up at the field which lists the varieties and whether they are edible or not.

If your photos are purely for personal use, you are welcome to take as many pictures as you like. Do tag us @roughamestate if you post them – we love to see them!
If you are a professional photographer or are taking pictures for any for-profit/commercial reason, you are required to get a licence for the photoshoot on our private land and book a time to visit. Please see the details on this page.
You don’t need to book to enter the pumpkin patch, just come along, unless you would like to visit during the SEN-friendly sessions, where you need to book a free ticket.
For the Pumpkins by Torchlight events, you are welcome to just turn up. No booking is needed. However if you would like to take part in the Silent Disco, you will need to book the headsets.
We prefer cards, but accept both cards and cash at every payment area on the field, including for the pumpkins, the nature hunt, food and drink and for face-painting.

Yes, we have plenty of wheelbarrows.
Please remember to bring your wheelbarrow back to the wheelbarrow park, at the entrance, when you’re done with it, so that someone else can use it.
Wheelchairs are welcome in the sunflower and pumpkin field. There are wood chippings down at the entrance and in other areas of high footfall, but otherwise the paths are just the earth of the field.
If it has been dry, the earth will be hard and dusty, and may be uneven in places, but if it has been raining, it could well be muddy.
There is an accessible toilet in the picnic area of the field.
Accessible parking is available near the entrance to the field.
There is no entrance fee – the field is free to visit
Yes, there is plenty of free parking in the field with the sunflowers and pumpkins.
If it’s been dry recently, you don’t need any special clothing or footwear to visit the pumpkin field. If it’s been raining recently, the ground may be muddy and you may want to consider wearing wellies. You are welcome to wear fancy dress if you like.
Our pumpkins and gourds are all grown right here by Rougham Estate. We don’t import any.
Most of the pumpkins are scattered across the patch exactly where they have grown, waiting to be picked. You can wander amongst them to find your perfect one.
Sometimes we move some around to create features in the field, like gathering them together to make the Pumpkin House.
The sunflowers and pumpkins are in a new field for 2026. It’s about the same driving distance from J45 on the A14 as the field last year, but this year it’s to the south of the A14.
The field we have used over the past few years needs a rest from growing sunflowers and pumpkins and it’s good for the ground to grow other crops for a while.

As the weather gets cooler, we turn our attention to warmer dishes at Roots Café.
This week’s special is our sweet potato and chilli soup with Rougham honey. A warming combination of sweet potato, a little chilli and our own Rougham honey, perfect for an autumn day.
Our brunch special is our oven-baked nachos with cheddar, mozzarella, jalapeños, salsa, guacamole, sour cream and cowboy caviar (crunchy veg salsa in case you were wondering). Perfect for sharing, although we won’t judge if you keep them all to yourself!
Pop in after a walk around the Estate or simply come along for a cosy lunch.
Roots Café is open daily from 9am–4pm.

As we start to transition towards our Christmas Shop, which opens in mid-October, we’ve downsized the shop for a short while as we make room for all the festive treats to come.
There’s still plenty to discover, with beautiful homeware, gifts and seasonal pieces, including some lovely autumnal touches and pumpkins.
Roots Café is open as usual, so why not combine a browse around the shop with a coffee, lunch or something sweet?

Believe it or not, the 2027 harvest is already underway!
The first crop to be planted this season is our Oilseed Rape (OSR), which means those famous sea of yellow fields will be back before we know it.
OSR is usually planted in early to mid-August, but after such a dry summer, we had to wait for the right conditions. Planting was delayed until late August and into early September.
One of the challenges with growing OSR is the Cabbage Stem Flea Beetle, a pest that can cause significant damage to young plants. Rather than relying on broad-spectrum insecticides, we’ve sown a companion crop of buckwheat alongside the OSR. The idea is to confuse the beetles and hopefully reduce their impact on the crop.
It’s early days, but we’ll be watching it closely as it gets established. The yellow fields of 2027 might seem a long way off, but the work starts now!

Our final Plant Pop-Up of the year!
Chris from Watsons Plants will be back at Blackthorpe Barn this Friday and Saturday, 25–26 September, for the last Plant Pop-Up of the season.
If you’re looking to add some colour, texture or interest to your garden as we head into autumn, this is your final chance to come along, browse the plants and speak to Chris for some expert advice.
The Plant Pop-Up is free to visit and there’s no need to book. You’ll find Chris just outside Roots Café and the Rougham Estate Shop, from 10am–4pm.

Those beautiful autumn colours won’t last forever…
But you can capture them on canvas.
The Canvas Club returns to Rougham Estate on the 10th October for a relaxed afternoon of painting inspired by the rich colours of autumn leaves – think golds, oranges, deep reds and greens.
Artist Sarah Rawlinson will guide you through the painting step by step, with demonstrations and plenty of support along the way.
Everything you need is provided, as well as tea, coffee and sweet treats. And, at the end of the afternoon, you’ll have your own autumnal artwork to take home.
It’s a lovely way to spend an autumn afternoon, with good company, a little time away from the everyday and the satisfaction of creating something yourself.
