MEET Rachel Hall

Rachel is an independent jewellery designer-maker living in SW London. She is best recognised for her bold, sculptural jewellery using large unusual gemstones or pearls, matched with unique handmade precious metal adornments, often with an organic theme. Her design process starts with the stone, its markings, texture, shape, and uniqueness. She makes original accents from gold and silver to emphasize or compliment the characteristics of the stone. She uses both new and traditional (and ancient) techniques to create her jewellery including lapidary, piercing, soldering, forming, stone-setting, etching, wax-carving, cuttlefish & sand casting, Keum Boo and fold-forming.

Her passion for jewellery started at school when her metalwork teacher taught her some basic silversmithing practices. She trained and worked in an unrelated career for many years before rediscovering jewellery-making 15 years ago. During this time, she has learnt many new skills, created a unique and characteristic portfolio of work and exhibited at some of the best UK handmade events.

Her gemstones are sourced from local suppliers with good ethical credentials. Each item is hallmarked with her own unique registered makers mark and authenticated by those of the London Assay Office.
