With the Winter Barley and Oilseed Rape now safely harvested and stored, the farm team is turning its attention to the next crop: Milling Rye.

It’s another key milestone in the 2025 harvest season here on Rougham Estate.

Milling Rye has been grown at Rougham for over 35 years and for good reason; it’s a crop that thrives in our light sandy soils and copes well with the dry conditions that are all too common in East Anglia.

This rye is grown specifically for Ryvita, one of the UK’s best-known brands. It’s a long-standing relationship we’re proud of, producing a staple product from seed to shelf.

Once harvested, the grain is sent down to Poole, where it’s milled and baked into the crispbreads you’ll find in supermarkets across the country.

Here’s a fun fact: this year’s harvest is expected to produce enough grain for a whopping 85.5 million Ryvita crispbreads! That’s a lot of crunch from our little corner of Suffolk.
