Meet Tamsin Francesca

Tamsin Francesca is a fine jeweller who combines traditional goldsmithing with textile skills and miniature sculpture to create her own unique narrative.

“I am interested in the qualities of the metal I use, which is predominantly silver and gold. It’s amazing how far it can be pushed, and remain strong. I use many techniques, from casting to forging to crochet and lacemaking, always in solid precious metal.

The wires I use for the textile work are 0.2mm so my tool box goes from a 0.6mm crochet hook to large saws (for a jeweller) and acid baths and fire – it’s a fun way to work!”

Starting off as a costume designer for theatre, Tamsin has always loved textiles, and found master lacemakers in her family when she was training as a goldsmith in Hatton Garden.

“I thought that was a tradition that should continue, so I taught myself to make lace and gradually adapted the skill into the metalwork I do today”

Tamsin’s love of detail is evident in her highly textured rings, which layer silver and gold to create deep patterns inspired by flora and fauna.

“I want my craft to have a positive impact, but do so beautifully. I use recycled metals wherever I can, without ever compromising on the quality of the material.”
