Picking sunflowers in sunny Suffolk
How often have you seen sunflowers growing in a field in summer and wished that you could just wander in there amongst them, and pick them to your heart’s content? Perhaps you fancy having a picnic completely surrounded by their radiate blooms? How about sitting on a swing and rocking gently as you gaze at these iconic summer flowers? Perhaps you fancy trying your hand at painting these wonderful plants? Are you a budding van Gogh in the making? Well, now you can do all these things and more!
This wonderful opportunity has been created by the Rougham Estate Events. The Sunflower Field is a large area for the growing of all sorts of different sunflowers, in varying heights and in shades of yellow through to red. Paths will be created through the middle of the flowers so that you can wander around with small discrete picnic areas carved out of planting and a beautiful swing acting as a centrepiece in a clearing in the heart of the crop. What could be more self-indulgent than a few hours whiled away in such a magical environment and at the end of it all taking home some glorious blooms to decorate the house. We will lend you a pair of secateurs for a small refundable deposit, to help you cut your chosen blooms. Just return them to us at the end of your visit.
This wonderful field is located in Rougham, just east of Bury St Edmunds is easily accessible and clearly signed from junction 45 of the A14. There is free parking, toilet facilities, picnicking is encouraged and weekend refreshments are available too.
It’s too early to announce the dates just yet, as we are monitoring the growth of our sunflowers and when it’s ready to visit we will announce it here on our website and on our social media.
